TIMELINE
March 23, 1976 – Nima Louise Carter is born to Rose and George Carter in Lawton.
April 8, 1976 – Twins Mary Elizabeth and Augustine “Tina” Jacqueline Carpitcher are abducted from their grandmother’s Lawton home.
April 10, 1976 – Tina Carpitcher is discovered by children locked inside a refrigerator in an abandoned house. Tina survives by breathing through a hole, but her sister suffocates to death. Tina identifies her babysitter, Jacueline M. Roubideaux as their abductor.
Oct. 31, 1977 – Nima Carter is abducted from her Lawton home.
Nov. 23, 1977 – A Fort Sill soldier notifies police that he found a baby laying dead next to a refrigerator in an abandoned home four blocks from where the Carters live.
Nov. 24, 1977 – An autopsy identifies the baby as Nima Louise Carter, and determines died of asphyxia inside the refrigerator. The case is ruled a homicide.
Nov. 28, 1977 – Funeral services are held for Nima.
Oct. 29, 1979 – Jacqueline M. Roubideaux is arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Mary Carpitcher. Prosecutors don’t believe they have enough evidence to also charge her with Nima’s murder.
Feb. 8, 1982 – Roubideaux is released from Comanche County Jail on $5,000 bail.
Feb. 17, 1982 – Roubideaux’s murder trial ends with a hung jury. Prosecutors vow they will seek a retrial.
May 18, 1983 – District Judge Jack Brock allows the Nima Carter murder case to become part of the trial record against Roubideaux.
May 21, 1983 – A Comanche County jury deliberates for six and half hours before delivering a guilty verdict. They recommend Roubideaux receive a life sentence.
June 1, 1983 – Roubideaux receives a life sentence.
Aug. 23, 1985 – The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals upholds Roubideaux’s life sentence by a 2-1 vote.
Aug. 28, 2005 – Roubideaux dies of liver cancer in prison. She is 46.
